Property Tax Information

"Each year we are required by law to file an application with Lee County to obtain certain exemptions from the County Ad Valorem Tax. Exemptions are based upon the affidavits of residency, or residents meeting the income or disability criteria. Shell Point must be your permanent residence and you may not claim Homestead at any other location.
A resident qualifies for an income exemption if your expected gross income from all sources, including Social Security, meets the following criteria.
Your income must not be more than $29876.00 if you are single; or not more than $33541.00 for a couple. This is gross income, not adjusted gross income. If you had this exemption last year you will be sent the necessary information and do not need to do anything.
Lee County also allows for a Veterans Disability Exemption.
In order to qualify you must be deemed 100% permanently disabled by the VA and provide a copy of your award letter. If you qualify for either the income or VA exemptions, your apartment will be totally exempt from Ad Valorem Tax.
All exemption forms must be signed no later than Friday, February 171h. If you think you qualify for any of these three exemptions, or have any questions, please contact Chris Ferrell in the Finance Department at 454-2075.
