MY POEM OF PRAISE

by Yvonne Schneff

May my heart sing to you and not be silent…
May I give you praises evermore…
May my heart sing to you and not be silent
As I think of ways to love you and adore?

May I sing with a heart filled with gratitude?
May I declare Your glory with a song?
When I think of all the things you have done for me,
How can I be silent very long?

I tremble at the splendor of your holiness.
You are great and greatly to be praised
When I think about the heavens, the moon and stars,
I find myself completely amazed.

Your voice fills the earth with its Majesty,
And it thunders throughout the skies.
The lightning flashes hauntingly,
And echoes its sacred reprise.

You sit on your throne in the heavens,
Far above the circle of the earth
You stretch out the heavens like a curtain
And you’re robed in righteousness and worth.

What a glorious demonstration of power.
There is no one as mighty as You.
Yet love, mercy and compassion
Are intertwined in all that you do

Though you give us the bread of adversity,
You are with us to teach us the way,
And when comes the water of affliction,
You’re there to give strength to our day.

If I fled on the wings of the morning,
Where in the world would I go?
Where could I run from your presence?
You fill the expanse that we know.

You know when I lie down and rise up.
You’re acquainted with all of my ways.
You knit me together in secret.
You even numbered my days.

You’re my shepherd who leads and guides me;
But, if by chance, I should stray,
Just call out my name and I’ll follow,
For your voice will always hold sway.

Your words are truth and sustain me.
They’re food for my hungering soul.
They bring joy to my heart and delight me,
And my sorrowing heart they console.

May my heart sing to you and not be silent
For Your love will always endure.
You never grow faint or weary.
You are mine forever. I’m secure!
