COUNCIL MEETING AND APPROVAL
OF AGENDA FOR TODAY

Prior to Staff Remarks, Chairman Rockstroh acknowledged Bob FooteÕs dedication in representing Gayle RichardsonÕs Court Rep. position. Gayle has had numerous family obligations this year. Bob received a round of applause.
STAFF REMARKS
Dr. Roger Hirchak
Dr. Hirchak explained the good news and bad news concerning the seasonal flu and the H1N1 (Swine Flu). The order the Swine Flu shots will be given when available is to: 1) health workers, 2) pregnant women, 3) children over 6 months and less than 24 years, 4) 25-64 years – high risk, 6) 65 and older.
Four injections are recommended: 1) regular flu shot, 2) H1N1 – 1 injection with booster 3-4 weeks later 3) the pneumococcal vaccine
Symptoms of the Swine Flu are similar to the regular flu; fever 100 degrees or over, muscle aches, congestion, coughing. The good news is, if you get the flu there is oral anti-viral medication such as Tamiflu or Rolenza that will help lessen the symptoms. The bad news is that you will not build up natural immunity if exposed to the H1N1. Only through the vaccine will you receive the protection for the season.
As with most illnesses, including the flu, the best prevention is avoidance with anyone with flu-like symptoms coupled with frequent hand washing.
Shell Point will keep residents informed on Channel 11.
Tim Ficker
After a quiet summer, Mr. Ficker welcomed everyone back and stated that the weather has cooperated so far and according to ÒDoppler DaveÓ Erika appears to be no threat to our area.
Tim then offered the following updates: Pavers in the Court Yard have been replaced and will be cleaned and sealed. They will be working on re-surfacing the road, sidewalks and under the church porte cochere to address uneven and potentially dangerous areas.
The Crystal will re-open for lunch on September 8 with some new variations. Buffet meals will continue to be served for Sunday Brunch, the Pasta and the Seafood nights. Table service will be in effect the rest of the week. There will also be some new price points at lunch – from $ 6.95 to $ 10.95.
The refurbishment of the Legacy offices will be completed this week and re-opened tomorrow in their regular location. The Manatee Room will re-open at the end of next week. A Legacy Grand Re-Opening will come later and all will be notified.
We have been addressing security issues at Eagles Preserve that appear to have been the result of two different groups of teenagers causing mischief. With the opening of school the problem appears to have subsided. However, the Security team has taken some extra measures to enhance security in the Eagles Preserve and will continue to assess the situation while maintaining communications with the residents of EP along the way.
The contract window washing service has been evaluated and will be done Òin houseÓ beginning in September in order to improve quality and reduce costs.
All quarterly surveys, randomly sent to residents, are showing improvement in several areas from 2006 to 2009 and Mr. Ficker shared the following statistics: (Each factor shows the years of measurement and the overall satisfaction percentage)

Our Sales Department is conducting 3 seminars a week, averaging 5-8 attendees, who are mostly first timers. Unfortunately August was the slowest month of the year due to having 5 sales but 7 cancellations. Occupancy is now at 92.5%. While not good, this is higher than almost all of our competition.
Circle November 13 on your calendars! Shell Point Open Golf Tourney will be held that day. Last year we raised over $20K for Memory Care. This year weÕll have a few retired NFL players and some great NFL memorabilia in a Silent Auction. We need golfers, so please call the Legacy to sign up.
Steve Minniear
Mr. Minniear stated the Pavilion currently has 37 Medicare patients. He also said the final lab results have been returned, and there were verified no cases of H1N1 flu in the Pavilion this past spring. He reminded the Council to pay special attention to all the national healthcare discussion, remain informed about President ObamaÕs package, and make your wishes known to your elected officials. This legislation could affect us at Shell Point. The Medical Center has already been informed that on Nov. 1 there will be up to a 21% reduction in Medicare physician fee schedules; however, in the past Congress has acted to significantly improve these announced reductions. Also, he reminded all that the Medical Center will be closed on Labor Day Monday.
The latest Morning Assurance list was distributed.
Sherry Brown
Sherry reviewed many of the staffing activities that will improve the care and comfort of the patients that are in the Pavilion. She cited several statistics concerning the Pavilion. For example, in fiscal 2008 the bed average was 141/day; in fiscal 2009 the average was 163.2/day. In the period between January and June 2009 it jumped to 174/day.
She also gave credit to the Auxiliary for the purchase of an ultrasound bladder machine and Care-Foam Chairs. In addition, several new volunteer opportunities have been made available. Caring, Serving and Satisfying are still the number one goal.
REPORTS OF THE
REPRESENTATIVES OF COURTS, KINGÕS
CROWN, ARBOR, AND PAVILION.
William Staples submitted a copy of the Notes of the Larsen Pavilion Resident Council Meetings held in June, July and August, a copy of which is attached to these Minutes and made a part hereof by reference.
OLD BUSINESS
We touched on those having special needs during a hurricane evacuation with the question to Steve. Steve will check further into this with Bob Southern. Dick Rockstroh had nothing else.
NEW BUSINESS
There was none.
SUGGESTIONS FOR THE GOOD OF
SHELL POINT
It was suggested that the Court Representatives receive two copies of the Council Agenda so one could be posted on the Court bulletin board. Chairman Rockstroh saw no reason why this could not be accomplished. It was also suggested that the agenda be placed on www.shellpoint.net as the minutes are every month.
Also, the suggestion was made that some of the Council meetings be held at the Woodlands. Mr. Rockstroh said this usually ends up with people going to the wrong location. Perhaps it could be considered again next year. (The possibility of the November or December meeting being held at the Woodlands is being explored-per Mr. Rockstroh).
In the September issue of Shell Point Life, it was mentioned that the Shell Point Market Place is being reintroduced each Friday morning from September to May. The ÒfarmerÕs marketÓ was discontinued in prior years as being a violation against Shell Point policy. Is this a shift in policy? This question will be turned over to Tim Ficker.
A note was read concerning residents pulling plugs to electrical appliances and the water heater, etc, before leaving for extended periods of time. Some have put their circuit breaker in the ÒoffÓ position. Perhaps adding instructions to our Comings and Goings would remind residents not to do this.
ELECTION PROCEDURE
Due to a Shell Point Homecoming in November, the Orientation Meeting of the 2010 Reps needed to be changed from November 18 to November 19, at 8:45
a.m. in the Island Social Center. A motion was made, seconded and approved to change this date.
Election supplies were handed out to each Court Representative. Chairman Rockstroh reminded the Representatives to post Exhibit A immediately.
NEXT MEETING DATE
The next meeting of the Shell Point ResidentsÕ Council will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 8:45 a.m. in the Island Social Center.
CLOSING PRAYER AND
ADJOURNMENT
The closing prayer was given by Joan Perry; the Meeting was adjourned at 10:25 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nita DeWeese, acting Recording Secretary
