Shopping Guidelines
In the interest of all, bus operators as well as passengers, please follow the guidelines below when joining us on a shopping trip.
PREPARATION:
Check the published transportation schedule as to pickup times and weekly shopping destinations.
For reservations, call 454-2282 (Island) or 454-2054 (Woodlands/Eagles Preserve). Call 24 hours in advance, if possible.
Place your shopping cart at the designated court pickup locations (not in your apartment) so that when you return, the groceries can be placed in it immediately.
If you need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible. Since we transport only 15 residents at a time, we could fill that spot with a resident on "standby."
FOR YOUR SAFETY: We strongly discourage venturing across busy streets and unsafe parking lots. Please stay at the drop-off point until the bus picks you up unless you have notified the driver about a change of plans.
If you need an electric cart for shopping, we recommend that you make prior arrangements with store personnel. There is no guarantee that one will be available.
SHOPPING:
Plan your approach to the check-out line in plenty of time to be ready for the scheduled pickup time. Some residents may have frozen foods that will be thawing!
Please ask the clerk to use double paper bags for your groceries. Wal-Mart and K-Mart are the exceptions. When shopping at Wal-Mart or K-Mart, we suggest you bring your own sturdy shopping bags to replace the plastic bags provided by these stores.
Have the clerk write your apartment number on the bags in black magic marker.
Request the bagger to keep the bags light enough to carry.
Push your cart towards the bus for loading at the designated time and let the driver place your grocery bags on the bus.
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
To accommodate your friends and neighbors, you may be asked to share a seat.
If you do not need a walker for shopping, please leave it at your court pickup.
Thank you for helping to make our shopping day smooth and enjoyable!
